OUTRAGE! CHILD KILLER JOHN ATHAN WALKS FREE

jilla | 7:26 AM | | | | | | Be the first to comment!
A MONSTER nabbed after 20 years for the murder of Kristen Sumstad, 13, has walked out of jail free thanks to a loophole. Dedicated Seattle cold case detectives arrested John Athan 20 years after the 1982 murder by tricking him into licking an envelope. DNA sealed the deal for the monster.
But wait...the judge sentenced Athan to a laughable 10 years in jail. He has served ONLY seven years in jail. Kristen's best friend Kim Alguard said: "I don't know anybody in the community or who knew Kristen that thinks seven years is fair. But we did what we could."
The nutjobs on the parole board said:"Mr. Athan has
demonstrated he wants again to be a contributing member of society."
Meanwhile, Alguard thanked the cold case squad and lab workers for finding the DNA match that put Athan in prison. She said: "It's time for the anger to end. I just want to hear him say 'I did it and I'm sorry.' "
Athan, now 43-years-old, was 14 when he murdered his neighbor, Kristen Sumstad and left her body in a box behind a TV store in Seattle's Magnolia neighborhood. 'I WANT TO HEAR HIM SAY 'IM SORRY'"

PHILANDER HAMPTON PLEADS GUILTY TO '78 MASSACRE

jilla | 7:01 AM | | | | | | | | | | Be the first to comment!
PURE EVIL. A New Jersey man who pleaded guilty to murdering five teens ended the saga in one of the Garden State's oldest active cold cases. Philander Hampton, of Jersey City, told cops he and his cousin, Lee Evans, lured the teens to a ramshackle area of Newark and into an abandoned house with the promise of jobs--then they locked them inside and set the firetrap ablaze. The murders were supposedly triggered by stolen drugs. Evans goes on trial this fall.
Melvin Pittman, Ernest Taylor, Alvin Turner, Randy Johnson and Michael McDowell were last seen on a busy street near a park where they had played basketball on Aug. 20, 1978.
The probe stumped detectives for years--even though the victims' families always suspected local handyman Evans was the killer. The victims--all close friends-- were last seen on a busy Newark street. Later, McDowell went home and changed, then returned to a waiting pickup truck with at least one other boy inside. That was the last confirmed sighting of any of the teens.

MISSING?

MISSING?
A POPULAR Belgian schoolteacher who has been missing for over a month may have been the victim of foul play, cops have revealed.
Sylviane Finck Lozada was reported missing from her Baton Rouge, LA home on July 18, although she last spoke with her family a couple of weeks earlier.
Her husband Oscar Lozada boarded a plane from Dallas to Venezuela July, only with the couple's young daughter.
He was scheduled to return July 14, but it appears he remained in the South American country and while Detectives were able to speak with him early on in the investigation, in the last week he has disappeared.
East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Casey Hicks told CNN: "We would obviously like to speak with him," Hicks said.
"Detectives have communicated with Oscar Lozada at the beginning of the investigation into her disappearance, but over the past week, they have been unable to contact him."
She added that no warrants have been issued in connection with the disappearance.
Authorities have examined the husband's credit card statements and found that he bought five-gallon buckets and several bags of concrete mix.
But, Hicks said: "The buckets and concrete mix are unaccounted for."
Walter Lemoine, principal at Brusly High, said Sylviane Finck Lozada had been a West Baton Rouge Parish Teacher of the Year. She is also a National Board Certified Teacher and had earned a doctorate degree two years ago.
Lemoine called Sylviane Finck Lozada a "tough" teacher and said her disappearance is "a major impact" to the community.
On August 8, the 500-student school was scheduled to hold "a celebration of hope" in the gymnasium for the missing teacher, and participants were also to move outdoors to light vigil candles, Lemoine said.

$10,000 REWARD
A $10,000 reward has been put up for any information that will lead to the capture of Cleo Burdette's killer.
Back in August 2004, the 78-year-old's battered body was found on the couch of his Sissonville, WV, home but cops are refusing to reveal anymore details about the baffling case.
Deputies did however find broken windows, a disabled phone line and  someone had clearly ransacked the cattle trader's home.
Lt. Sean Snuffer with the Kanawha County Sheriff’s office said: “We feel that it could have been a robbery that could have gone bad.”
“Investigators have shown that Burdette did have quite a substantial amount of money.”

Snuffer also confirmed that they are still trying to figure out who was driving a car witness saw near the house on the night before the crime.
Snuffer added: "We had several witnesses in the area who were just happening to be driving by Mr. Burdette's residence.
"They indicated that a red- or orange-colored Toyota truck was parked near the residence."
Burdette’s younger brother, Jim Burdette, said he kept in touch with his family every day and spoke to his brother the night before he died, and his sister found Cleo Burdette’s body.
He told The State Journal: “It took place after 9:30, because he always called my sister back after he talked to me."

A $10,000 reward is still being offered to find the person responsible for Burdette's murder. Anyone with information about the case is asked to the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office.

Last year a tree went up.
Terry said: “It was quite emotional. We don’t have all the answers of course but we have a lot of them that we didn’t have before.”

AS THE SEARCH for missing Missouri mom Jacque Sue Waller appears to have hit a wall, the haunting image of another missing mom is casting a long shadow. Waller--a mother of triplets--disappeared June 1 and her estranged hubby Clay is considered a person of interest. Meanwhile, the disappearance of Amanda Jones just has hit the six year mark.  Jones was 26 when she disappeared Aug. 14, 2005 just a few days before she was to give birth to a baby boy. Her car was found abandoned that day at the Jefferson Clounty Fairgrounds in Hillsboro. Her keys and cell phone were never found. Brian Westall, the man Jones said was the unborn baby's father, is still the last person known to have seen her.
Her devastated mom Berth Propst said of a drugstore video of Amanda: "A
bottle of soda, a key chain, and a can of hair spray. She always had to have her hair spray. Individuals don't remember she still hasn't been found. We still need their help; any little thing that they might have seen or heard, something minute to them, might be what it's going to take to solve this case."
Jones' family has prayed for Jacque Sue Waller's parents during their ordeal: "When I first heard about it, I thought, 'Oh my God, not another one, another family having to go through this'. I don't wish that on anybody." MORE ON AMANDA JONES

SUSPECTED KILLER OF EILEEN ADAMS NEW TRIAL IS OCT. 11

jilla | 8:37 PM | | | | | | Be the first to comment!
ON OCT. 11, Eileen Adams may finally get justice after nearly 44 years. That's when suspected sex killer Robert Bowman will be retried for the 1967 torture murder of Eileen, 14 at the time of the slaying. The creepy 75-year-old's first trial ended in a hung jury, although one juror said it was 10-2 to convict. There is a gag order on the defense and prosecution.
The grisly slaying had Satanic elements and was shocking beyond belief when it occurred. It stumped cops for years --even after Bowman's ex-wife told detectives she saw Adams hanging naked, Christ-like in her basement. It's believed Bowman kidnapped the girl, held her captive in his basement for several days using her as a sexual play thing then murdered her. Eileen's body was discovered in a Michigan field in January 1968. She had been tied up with telephone and drapery cords. A nail had been driven through her head.

LOIS SCHMIDT, SON TARGETED BY PROFESSIONAL KILLER

IT WAS a heinous crime that demands justice. On June 28, 2004 a cold-blooded murder rocked Virginia Beach, Virgina. Lois Schmidt, 29, and her son, Jonathan Vetrano, 7, were found dead. Both had been shot in the head and their home set on fire. Cops say at about 6 a.m. that day, an unknown male approached Schmidt's home claiming to be a former classmate. She didn't recognize him and closed the door. According to the FBI report, "at approximately 7:00 a.m. that same morning, a white male (possibly Hispanic) was observed sitting in a raspberry-colored 1999 Chevrolet pickup truck in the vicinity of the victims' residence. The truck has not been seen in the neighborhood since the incident occurred. Additionally, the driver is being sought for questioning."
The killer is described as a white male (possibly Hispanic) 6'0"-6'1", weighing approximately 160-165 lbs., and wearing black clothing to include a mask.
Pals say that Lois was a "sweetheart" whose only flaw was bad taste in men. Investigators believe the single mom was targeted for murder in a possible murder-for-hire case. And there was something else. Her mother also said she learned only after her daughter's death: she feared for her life.

NO CLOSE IN HEIDI CHILDS, DAVID METZLER MURDERS

IT'S NOW been two years since Virginia Tech students Heidi Childs and David Metzler were mysteriously murdered. Heidi, 18, and David, 19, of Lynchburg were shot to death on the evening of Aug. 26, 2009 in the parking lot of a campground in the Jefferson National Forest. There have been no arrests. Their bodies were discovered the next day by a man walking his dog. But cops in Virginia are refusing to characterize the case as "cold."
Detectives have followed up on more than 1,300 tips and are confident someone "hold the key" to blow the case wide open. The shocking murders were considered random by police, who admit
they have not found a single motive for them. The pair had dated since high school and were going to the campground for just a brief visit because Heidi had homework. A reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case has reached more than $72,000.
A law enforcement said: "This has been an exhausting two years. Everyone involved has worked hard on the case. The one thing we have not been able to do is give closure to the Metzler and Childs families."

COULD SAFE CRACK RICHARD CHARTRAND MURDER?

jilla | 4:03 AM | | | | | | | | | Be the first to comment!

ANSWERS?
A HUGE safe found hidden away in an old casino could help police finally crack the 1968 murder of former casino boss.
Richard Chartrand was blown up in his South Lake Tahoe, NV neighborhood by a sophisticated bomb but his killers were never caught.
It's current owner, attorney Mike Laub said last Thursday crews discovered a secret four foot safe behind the walls, completely sealed off.
He told KSDK: "There is a pirate part of your personality that hopes to find diamonds and gold."
"I can't go anywhere without being stopped and asked what is inside the safe. I had no idea this would become such a distraction."

Twenty different locksmiths from around the county have called to try and unlock it but of the three who have seen it already, none have been able to crack it.
But it's hoped that inside, maybe crucial information about the Chartrand murder, more than 42-years ago.
Laub said:  "After the murder it was a conclusion that was drawn in the law firm, Mr. Chartrands personal attorneys, that he had been hit by a New York mob gang or group."
If the safe contains new evidence, the cold case could be blown wide open.
He added: "Every opportunist in the country is trying to get at this."
Laub plans on opening the safe within the next few days, with investigators watching.

FAMILY OF PAULA HERNANDEZ STILL WAITING FOR JUSTICE

UNSOLVED
THEY'VE waited 15-years for justice, but Paula Hernandez's family are still no nearer to finding the cold blooded killer who gunned down their daughter.
Back in 1996, she was executed on the driveway of her of their South Austin home, by a person who cops have yet to find.
Her distraught mom Josie, 70, said: "Our family has been to hell and back. I think about this every day. It's like it just happened. I'm reliving the same thing over and over and over."
On that tragic day, Hernandez was coming back from her new job at Payless ShoeSource the first job she'd had in years and one which she hoped would provide for her family.
It would be her last thought as she died not long after reaching the hospital, leaving behind four children, ranging in ages from 8 to 12 at the time.
Homicide cold case Detective Mark Gilchrest, who was the original police detective in the slaying, said the case has gone cold because physical evidence and witness information has been scarce.
He told The Statesman: "This is not one of those DNA cold cases, or one where we can solve it if we get a magic fingerprint."
The 29-year Police veteran added that they still think her death may have had ties to the Texas Syndicate prison gang but a federal investigation into that group in the early 2000s made witnesses reluctant to come forward.
Today, Paula Hernandez's children are adults after a  childhood was marked by grief and anger over their mother's death, Josie Hernandez, 70, said.
She and the children desperately want to see the case resolved in some way.

JUSTICE AT LAST FOR 1978 CARROLL BONNET MURDER

WATSON
THREE decades after his naked body was found dead of a single stab wound, with a taunting note left for cops, justice has finally been served on his killer.
A jury took just a few hours to convict Jerry Watson, now 52 of first degree murder for the weird 1978 murder of the 61-year-old hospital worker.
At the time of the killing, the 19-year-old Watson left a puzzling note which said: "I'm leaving this crime with only one clue. Find it yourself. Die pig. –Helter."
And after getting away with his crime for 33-years Watson must have thought that he'd gotten away with his crime but the Omaha Police Department's cold case unit, began investigating the case again.

Detectives identified pieces of evidence to submit for DNA testing, including a hair found on a towel with fecal matter that was left next to Bonnet's body.
Eventually police matched fingerprints left at Bonnet's apartment and in his car to Watson.
Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine said the hair on the towel was key to tying Watson to the murder because it proved that he was in the apartment.
He told The Omaha World Herald: “This is extremely satisfying. There was a lot of hard work put into this case.”

1981 USMC BASE TRIPLE HOMICIDE STILL UNSOLVED

jilla | 7:05 AM | | | | | | | Be the first to comment!
A MOM and two children dead. Unsolved. Cold. Chilling. A teenager accused.
In 1981, two sisters and their children were living at USMC Camp Lejeune in North Carolina while their husbands were stationed in Alaska and Japan. On a warm summer evening when one of the sisters, a nurse, was working four pre-teen cousins camped out in a family vehicle. But when they entered the house the next morning they found a massacre and three family members dead. Sharon
Sager, 34, was found dead, her throat slit in the family room where three of her younger children were still sleeping. Connie Smith, 12, was dead in the living room. Her throat was also cut and she had a cut from below her left breast to her pelvis. Tyler Dash, 13, was found alone in an upstairs bedroom. His throat had been slit and he bled to death during the night. No forced entry. No robbery. No sexual abuse. There was Carlton Smith, 15, sleeping upstairs. He was arrested and spent five years in jail for pre-trial--then sprung on a technicality.
He told a local paper" "I didn't do it." And his cousin, Scott Sager, who was 4 at the time and found sleeping next to his dead mom believes him.
Sager said: “I had to know for myself. When I first looked into Butch’s eyes I knew he didn’t do it. He is innocent.” But the agency that investigated the case is just as confident Smith is guilty.
A defense lawyer said: "Try painting a white room red without getting one single drop of red paint on your clothes. That is what they want us to believe happened that night. There was a lot of blood, none of it on Butch Smith."

DID WENDY SUE WOLIN'S KILLER GET AWAY WITH IT?

AS FLOWER power revved up, Elizabeth, New Jersey was stunned by the heinous murder of a 7-year-old girl. On March 8, 1966, Wendy Sue Wolin planned to leave her apartment with her mom Shirley Fleischner. Shirley went around back to get the car and then pick up the skinny little girl at the front of her building. Then, a stocky man wearing a green corduroy coat and fedora, approaching from the opposite direction, suddenly crouched low and thrust a $1.50 hunting knife through her coat and into her stomach. The child doubled over and cried out while the monster continued on. A fire station was across the street and Wendy told them she had been stabbed. But they found her bleeding--the knife gone through her ribs and into her liver. She died in hospital an hour later.

$5000 REWARD IN 1977 RONNIE ODELL DAVIS CASE

$5000 REWARD
THEY'RE still hopeful of finding out the truth, despite it being more than 34 years since Ronnie Odell Davis disappeared. And now his family have offered $5000 to anyone who can help them finally put the mystery to rest.
Back in August 1977 the 24-year-old vanished without trace from his home near Swink, OK and cops, suspecting foul play, have followed up numerous leads. Each has been nothing more than a blind alley, and the handsome red headed youngster, who was approximately six-feet-two inches and 180lbs has never been seen again.
Davis was wearing blue denim jeans, a blue denim shirt and a gold watch at the time of his disappearance and investigators say Davis' truck, a white and blue 1975 Ford XLT three-quarter ton, is also missing.
The license tag number is 440-699.
Cops remain convinced the truck is the key to solving the case, as they believe it may well lead them to Davis' remains.
His family, who have set up this Facebook page in his memory are also hopeful that someone will come forward with information.
On it Susan Feller writes: "34 years ago today, you were still alive and going about your sweet, sweet life surrounded by family and friends who loved you.
"The next day, because you were in the wrong place at the wrong time, you were murdered and your body hidden so well no one has found you in 34 years.
"We are hoping that by starting this Facebook page, someone will help us find you now."
They have also put up $2,500 reward for information helpful in locating Davis' remains while the OSBI is offering a separate reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest and conviciton of the person(s) responsible for Davis' death.
Tipsters can call the OSBI tip line at (800) 522-8017 or they can call the local authorities.

AZ. COPS: ON VERGE OF CLOSING RANDY PARSCALE CASE

jilla | 6:42 AM | | | | Be the first to comment!
BAFFLING DISAPPEARANCE may have new hope. Randy Parscale was 10 when he vanished while on a hiking trip with his grandfather and two brothers in Peppersauce Canyon in Arizona on April 7, 1979. Randy wandered ahead of the rest of the group and was never seen again. An extensive search was launched but there was no trace of the boy. However, Pinal County Sheriff's Office detectives believe they may be on the verge of solving the case--but they need the public's help.

But there are some disturbing clues. One of the searchers was able to follow the child's footsteps to a dirt road where they suddenly stopped--as if the boy
had gotten into a vehicle.
In addition, in 1985 a woman reported that she had found a dollar bill with the chilling phrase: "I'm alive in Phoienix, Ariz. Please help me. Randy Parscale." His case is considered a non-family abduction.
Cops were tight-lipped about why the case may suddenly be on the verge of being closed.
The Pinal County Sheriff's Office is requesting anyone with information about this case to contact PCSO Criminal Investigations Bureau at 520-866-5161 or Pinal County Silent Witness at 1-800-358-4636.

WILLIAM WALTER ASHER III BUSTED 36-YEARS ON

BUSTED

ARREST
A DYING mom's wish led the FBI to capture her fugitive son, who had eluded capture for 36 years.
Back in 1966 William Walter Asher III was part of a four man crew who shot and beat a San Francisco barman to death during a robbery.
But although he was captured, convicted and given to life imprisonment, eight years into his sentence a woman helped him escape.
Agents believed he was in the Northwest Territories of Canada and near Alaska, but could not find him.
They later found out that he had assumed the name David Donald McFee, worked as a long-haul truck driver, married, and raised a family.
But when Canadian authorities and FBI agents interviewed his wife, they had separated and she could not help them locate Asher.
An FBI news release said: "Although the trail was cold over the years, investigators never gave up their hunt for Asher and recently got the break they needed."
In 2005, Asher's ailing mother Mable Welch "asked various family members to assist her in using the 'secret' number to call 'Billy,'" said the FBI report.
They later discovered that two days before Welch's death, two phone calls were made to a residence in Salida, Calif., owned by a Garry Donald Webb.
Checking his driving license the image "appeared to resemble an older, thinner Asher,"and after comparing Asher's fingerprint card to Webb's and found they had a match.
So on Friday morning, the FBI had Asher's house under surveillance as well as the trucking company where Gary Donald Webb allegedly worked.
When a man that looked like Asher exited the house, investigators swooped and although he initially denied it the FBI said "Asher admitted his true identity."
Officials say it appears that a woman who has been living with Asher for at least 10 years had no idea who he really was.
Agent Daniel Rodriguez told KXTV: "She was really surprised. She had no idea the person she had been living with for the past 27 years was somebody completely different."
Asher is currently being held in the Sierra Conservation Center is Jamestown and could face new charges as well as life in prison.

THE SUSPECTED killer in the notorious 1976 murder of Darlene Stack is set to plead guilty, his lawyer revealed. Michael Whitney will receive a life sentence for the killing. Whitney was charged in early August after cops revealed DNA at the scene linked Whitney to the crime. Whitney and Stack lived in the same boarding house in suburban Chicago. Stack, 28, was found raped and murdered (she had been stabbed to death) and although Whitney was eyed at the time, the case went nowhere and gathered dust. Whitney is already serving a 60-year sentence for another 1982 murder. He was going to be paroled next year. Not now. He is back in court Sept. 8. FOR A BACKGROUNDER, CHECK OUT OUR LINK

MELISSA HASKELL SMOTHERED BABY IN '92: COPS

FOR NEARLY 20 years a Pennsylvania woman got away with murder but on Monday, her run from justice came to an end. Melissa Haskell, 38, of Bridgeport was charged with third-degree murder in the death of Ryan Baurley, who was just 5-months-old in 1992.
The baby's dad Michael said of the arrest: "The very recent developments in this investigation has once again ripped open the wounds that are very difficult to heal for our family."

Haskell was Ryan's babysitter from the time he was a month old, was alone with him in his family's home when he died Aug. 26, 1992. Then
19, Haskell told cops she found the baby unresponsive in the crib and the coroner concluded Ryan died of sudden infant death syndrome. But in April, cops got a tip that Haskell smothered the baby. They then taped her describing the cold-hearted murder.
She had been fighting heroin withdrawal and couldn't handle the crying baby and became frustrated.
A police source said: "She was having trouble caring for the child and she was not able to deal with the child crying and a typical infant behavior because of her own personal difficulties."

GAL PAL BUSTED IN 1985 JOHN MAYERCHAK MURDER

jilla | 5:18 AM | | | | | Be the first to comment!

KILLER
FOR over a quarter of a century the death of John Mayerchak has remained a mystery. Found dead from a shotgun blast to the face in his Northampton, PA apartment, the jolly 51-year-old's murder baffled detectives for more than 26-years. With seemingly no enemies, no links to organized crime and no signs of forced entry at his home, authorities suspected the divorcee who liked women was killed by one of several he was known to consort with.
But with little to go on, the case quickly went cold.
Now however, Lucinda A. Andrews, 56, has admitted to the killing, just 12-days before the 26th anniversary of his death.
In court Monday, according to the Allentown Morning Call the now gray and bent woman offered just a hint of an explanation for what defense attorney Robert Sletvold called a "horrible incident."
She said: "John was a good man. He was a friend of mine.. I don't know why he turned on me that day, because that's what happened."
She added: "I still hurt from it. I still grieve from it. I've been tortured and tormented from it."
Cops had already linked her to crime after her DNA was found in cigarette butts in Mayerchak's car, and Victoria Emmons, who gave her a lift to Philadelphia after the slaying, told the grand jury that Andrews admitted the crime to her.
She will now serve 10 to 20 years in state prison for the 1985 murder - the maximum that the law at the time allowed.
James Mayerchak, the victim's son, said he had been shown Andrews' mug shot 26 years ago by police, and knew she was the one who had done it.
He said he asked God to give him strength to forgive Andrews, and has managed to.

DAVID DIXON BUSTED FOR 32-YEAR-OLD MURDER

jilla | 3:31 AM | | | | | | | | Be the first to comment!

JUSTICE AT LAST?
HE MUST have thought that after more than three decades they had got away with the vicious murder of security guard Rachel Moncrief.
But now thanks to improvements in DNA technology, cops have arrested David Dixon, now 61, in connection with the 1979 killing which saw her stabbed more than 30 times.
It is the third result for the recently reopened cold case unit at the Santa Clara County district attorney's office who did DNA testing of blood on the victim's clothing and a marijuana cigarette.
The cold case leader Ted Kajani said: "When the lab found that blood stain, obtained a DNA profile, they uploaded it into the system and got a hit."
He added that DNA for both Dixon and the victim was also found on the marijuana cigarette.
The prosecutor says Dixon's recent stroke will not have any bearing on proceeding with the 32-year-old case.
Deputy DA Angela Bernhard told KTVU: "This is what happens with these older cases is you have older defendants, but we still think it's very important for us to handle this case as we would any other case."
She added that Dixon's DNA was already in a criminal database because felons are required to provide samples, but no one is talking about his past history.
Anyone with information about the Dixon case is asked to call Santa Clara Police Detective Ken Henderson at (408) 615-4812 or Detective Dave Tanquary at (408) 615-4821.

WHO IS RACINE JANE DOE TORTURED, KILLED IN 1999?

jilla | 12:30 AM | | | | | | Be the first to comment!
SHE HAS WAITED for love and justice for nearly a dozen years. Jane Doe was found dead on the morning of July 21, 1999 outside Racine, Wisconsin. She had been horribly abused and no one ever identified her. Her murder also remains unsolved.
Cops say she is white, between 18 and 30, 5'8" and 120 lbs. She had brown hair and eyes and two front teeth that slightly protruded. She had some missing and decayed teeth, her ears double pierced. Now, the grim part: Jane Doe was repeatedly tortured for up to four weeks before her death. She suffered burns and blunt force trauma to much of her body, a nose fracture, cuts to the head, abrasions to the forehead, a heavily battered left ear - often called a cauliflower ear - and showed signs of being both sexually abused and malnourished.
Det. Cary Madrigal said: "This is the case that burns in all of our minds,
because she's not identified. At the bare minimum, we want to identify her." They believe she may have been in a dysfunctional home and run away. Another theory they have is that Jane Doe is from another country.

COPS TURN UP HEAT IN 1992 MISTY COPSEY KIDNAPPING

jilla | 10:58 PM | | | | | Be the first to comment!

MISTY COPSEY

GREEN RIVER KILLER
FOR 19 YEARS, the story has been the same: a bloody brick wall. Misty Copsey was a well-behaved 14-year-old who vanished into thin air on Sept. 17, 1992 after a night at the Puyallup Fair with a girlfriend. She never came home and there has never been a body or a single trace of anything to solve the heartbreaking riddle. And, according to the Tacoma News-Tribune, the case was botched almost from the minute Diana Smith--Misty's mom--called the cops and reported her daughter missing. Cops, insisted she was a runaway and generally didn't bother much.
They thought Diana Smith was lying.
Evidence vanished, they pooh poohed witnesses and did a terrible disservice to the young girl and her family. They kept to that story for years. But that was then, this is now and they are calling the reopened case a homicide investigation. Largely thanks to the News-Tribune.
They've gathered forensic evidence, DNA and built a file. But still, there is no aha or home run moment. Deputy Chief Bryan Jeter said: "We need a spark. Somebody knows, is the bottom line."

And the possibilities are frightening: When Misty disappeared, at least six sex killers and predators roamed within 20 miles of the fairgrounds. Among them were: Gary Ridgway, the Green River Killer; Terapon Adhahn, a convicted sex offender who would abduct and rape an 11-year-old girl in 2000, and snatch and kill a Tacoma girl in 2007; and Timothy Ray Burkhart, now deceased, lately identified as the most prolific serial killer in Pierce County. AUSTIN POWERS STAR ACCUSED OF 1990 KIDNAP/RAPE

jilla | 7:26 AM | | | | | | | | Be the first to comment!

RANDOM RAPIST?
AUSTIN Powers star Joe Son is set to stand trial for the vicious 1990 kidnap and rape of a woman.
The pint sized actor who made his name playing shoe throwing bad guy, Random Task has turned into a real bad guy after his DNA was matched to the vicious crime.
On Christmas Eve of 1990 the 20-year-old woman was abducted off the LA street by two men, who reportedly then subjected her to a vicious beating.
Then holding her at gunpoint, they repeatedly raped her, telling her her she was going to die as they counted the bullets in front of her, according to Orange County prosecutors.
Astonishingly they let her go and Son managed to evade justice, building a career, first as an MMA fighter and then hitting stardom in Austin Powers, International Man of Mystery. But after he was arrested in 2008 and imprisoned in 2008 for violating his parole on an unrelated felony vandalism conviction, his DNA was entered into the Codicis National Database and he was linked to the attack more then two decades ago.
Son initially was charged with multiple sexual assault and kidnapping counts, but many of those charges were dropped in part because the statute of limitations had expired KTLA reports.
He now faces trial on two charges: conspiracy to commit murder and torture, which carry life terms in prison upon conviction, according to Deputy District Attorney Eric Scarbrough.
Santiago Gaitan, 40, Son's co-defendant, was arrested in 2009 after he, too, was linked to the assault.
He pleaded guilty to multiple sex crimes in January 2011, and was sentenced to prison for 17 years and four months.

WILL EILEEN ADAMS FINALLY GET JUSTICE MONDAY?

jilla | 6:47 AM | | | | | Be the first to comment!
THE FATE of Robert Bowman will be determined Monday. That's when the prosecution and defense present their final arguments in the case of the 75-year-old accused killer. The old creep is charged with first-degree murder in the 1967 sex strangling of Eileen Adams in Toledo. The 14-year-old was last seen a week before Christmas on a city bus. Her body was found in January 1968 in a field in rural Michigan. Her hands were tied in front of her and her ankles were bound with a cord that attached to her neck. From the back of her shattered skull protruded a nail.
The defense called just one witness Friday: Julie Heinig, who works at a private DNA lab. She testified in
festival of smoke and mirrors that maybe...could be...maybe not...on the evidence.
DNA was found on the Eileen's clothing in 2006 after cold case detectives reopened the long unsolved case. Bowman had long been a suspect particularly after his ex-wife went to cops and told them she saw Eileen chained to a wall naked in their home. MORE IN THE TOLEDO BLADE

VELDA LEYBA VANISHED ON DAUGHTER'S BIRTHDAY

jilla | 6:31 AM | | | | Be the first to comment!
THE BIRTHDAY will never be forgotten. Velda Leyba was on her way to daughter Isabel Candelaria's birthday party. It was Dec. 6, 1992. But young mom never made. In the 20 years since, no one has heard from her. Did she meet with foul play or did she die in the raging blizzard howling at the time? Now, her case has been dusted off and cops in Albuquerque are taking another look.
Isabel said her mom called to let her know she was leaving: "It was not in my mom's nature to not be with me. We were very close so I knew when she didn't show up that something was wrong. They (Police) told me I had to wait a 24 hour period before they could report her missing."
Cops largely ignored the case until her Chrysler LeBaron turned up three months later. The car contained her personal items. Sources told cops the
killer's name but he could not be linked to the disappearance. And everyone was afraid of the unnamed monster.

Investigators think they have a pretty good chance of solving this 20 year old mystery. But, Leyba's family said they've have been let down before. Her family said she battled a drug addiction after the accidental death of her 9 year old daughter. Police don't know if drugs played a role in her disappearance.
