SHE WAITED more than 17-years for justice but Becky Bornhoft has finally seen her rapist jailed for the vicious attack.
Back in 1995 she was fast asleep in bed when a loud crash on her door woke her up.
She said: "It was only a second or two before he entered my bedroom.
Smashing her in the head, he put his weight on her and forced her to disarm the home alarm which was blaring after his crude break in.
Then he attacked.  
She recalled:  "I checked out" mentally during the assault."
When she came back to herself, she was crouching on the floor in her closet -- and found that her attacker pushed a dresser in front of the closet door.
Pushing her way out, she went to her car and it was only then that she realized she had no clothes on and went back inside back in.  
"Mentally, you're just broken," Bornhoft said of the aftermath.
She also suffered severe arm and shoulder soreness, loose teeth and cuts on her neck and the top of her head.
But it was the fear that took the longest time to overcome, especially as her attacker remained at large, despite a huge police investigation.
But in January 2009, they got the break they needed when Byron Gay was caught trying to break into the home of a Denver police lieutenant.
The officer's daughter was home alone , started to go upstairs and saw him in the living room, wearing a ski mask.
She silently went downstairs, hid under a pile of laundry and called 911.
If someone is charged with a felony, the defendant's DNA goes into the database and that matched samples taken from her attack.
First Gay was tried in the burglary case -- and sentenced to 48 years.
Then the three sexual assault cases were combined so the victimes would have to testify only once.
And despite his attempts to stare down them and their supporters in the courtroom, he was convicted and sentenced to life.

VICIOUS 2008 RAPIST IS MANUEL MCGEE: COPS

A VICIOUS rapist, who played the good Samaritan before violently attacking a woman has been busted more than three years on from the vicious crime, cops say.
Manuel McGee allegedly promised to help direct her to Federal Boulevard in Denver, CO, but instead he led her into a secluded park, where he raped her.
Grabbing her neck he violently threw her to the ground and announced that he was, "going to f**k her and kill her." 
The woman told cops she was choked five or six times, nearly losing consciousness, during which time he ripped off her pants and underwear and raped her for an estimated 30 minutes. 
Thankfully he didn't carry out the second part of his threat and instead he grabbed her wallet and purse and left.   
For three-years her attacked evaded justice, but now cops think they have their man after DNA found at the 2008 scene matched Mcgee's.
Late last month he was busted for aggravated motor vehicle crime - a felony theft which requires cops to take a DNA sample.
Denver District Attorney’s spokeswoman Lynn Kimbrough told CBS Denver: "He had to give his DNA up at the time of that felony arrest, it went in to the database and Denver detectives received word that there was a DNA match."
She added: “I think it has come as quite a surprise,” she said. “She is working through that now with her family and her support system."
McGee is now facing charges of attempted first degree murder, sexual assault and unlawful sexual contact, in addition to the charges from the Lakewood auto theft case.

DNA NABS RAPIST LUIS GARCIA FOR 2000 ATTACK

A SADISTIC rapist who posed as a good Samaritan before viciously attacking a woman has been busted after DNA linked him to the 2000 crime.
The victim who's car had broken down was waiting at a bus stop when Luis Garcia allegedly offered her a ride with his pal.
But instead of driving her for help they went punched and kicked her and dragged her into an apartment in Tacoma, WA.
Ripping off her clothes, one of the attackers put on a condom and raped her, before forcing her into the bathroom and telling her to wash.
She refused and when the men left, the woman, who was still nude fled and got help from another apartment.

After she was taken to hospital doctors found they'd beaten her so badly that she had several facial fractures, along with other injuries.
Cops found the used condom in the apartment, which they used to build a DNA profile, but although they ran it through several DNA databases a match was never found.
But when they tried again in 2008 Garcia, 27, matched the attacker, but he'd disappeared, until cops picked him up on a routine traffic stop on Saturday.
He told cops he'd been living in California.
He was arraigned on the rape and assault charges Monday and ordered held in the Pierce County Jail in lieu of $200,000 bail.

ACCUSED MARIA RIDULPH KILLER FINGERED IN NEW RAPE

A FORMER cops accused of the 1957 kidnapping and killing Maria Ridulph has now been charged with sexually assaulting another teenage girl in the same small Illinois town.  
As we reported here in one of America's oldest cold cases of murder Jack McCullogh, 71, was busted earlier this year for the murder of the girl dubbed "Pretty Maria." 
She was last seen in the December of that year by a friend who she'd been playing with outside her Sycamore, IL home.  A young man walked up and introduce himself as "Johnny" and she accepted piggyback rides
from the mysterious stranger and her friend left her.  
Her body was found the following spring in a wooded area about 120 miles away.
McCullogh had been a suspect at the time of Maria’s disappearance, but he told cops that he’d been on a train from Rockford to Chicago on the day Maria was abducted.
After he ran away to join the military and changed his name "the case ran cold" according to court documents.   
But the case was re-opened last year after one of his ex-girlfriends in 2010 came across an unused and unstamped train ticket for the Rockford-to-Chicago trip, ripping apart his alibi. 
Now McCullogh, who denied any role in the murder last year has been charged in a separate case with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl from the same small town.
Illinois State Police announced the grand jury indictment of Jack McCullough on Friday for the
sexual assault which also happened in Sycamore, although they remained tight lipped on when the attack had taken place.
He's now also charged with one count of child sexual assault and four counts of indecent liberties with a child.
Illinois State Police director Hiram Grau said: "Sadly, we have another victim, and for the families of all victims, the pain never goes away,"

DRIFTER PLEADS GUILTY IN KATHY ENGLE 1986 SLAY

THEY'VE waited for a-quarter-of-a-century for justice but finally Kathy Engle's family have seen justice for her 1986 slay.
With an accomplice, former drifter Kyle Eckardt  is believed to have kidnapped her and raped the wife and mother of two near her Oklahoma City before cutting her throat.
Her body was a “Pretty grisly sight,” according to the man who found her in a meadow in the far west of the state. 
Eckardt was already in jail for assaulting a Tulsa woman who's naked body was found in her apartment's bath tub, although the medical examiner could not determine how she died.

The medical examiner could not determine how she died, but as result his DNA was put into the database, which linked him to Engle's death. 
A second suspect, Steven A, Boerner was later was identified from a fingerprint on the car's steering wheel but the ex-con died in 1992 in a trucking accident, before he could see justice.
Eckardt entered what is known as an Alford plea to the first-degree murder charge which means a criminal defendant can take a plea deal to avoid a worse punishment without admitting guilty.
He told the judge in writing that he does not admit to the acts but did not want to risk getting the death penalty at trial.
That didn't stop Engle's family venting their fury on him. 
According to The Oklahoman Engles older sister, Mary Ann Jones told him the family now finally will have some peace knowing he will never be able to bully, terrorize or torture any woman again.
Her daughter added: “It is cowardly the way you killed my mother. You couldn't even face her.”
He will now serve life in prison.

LEESA JO SHANER'S KILLER CONVICTED AFTER 38 YRS.

BYE, BYE SANTA. He is 57 now and will spend the rest of his days behind bars. Almost 40 years after the May 29, 1973 murder of young wife Leesa Jo Shaner in Tucson, her killer has been convicted. Shaner was waiting at the Tucson International Airport for her husband to return from a business trip when sick William Floyd Zamastil kidnapped, raped and murdered her. Her body was discovered in a remote area four months later. The FBI said in a press release:
“The jury’s verdict in this case may finally bring some peace to the Shaner family knowing her murderer has been held
accountable,” stated U.S. Attorney Dennis K. Burke of today’s verdict.  “Justice has been served by the tireless efforts of our federal prosecutors and law enforcement agents.”

"The FBI is extremely gratified by this verdict," Phoenix Division FBI Special Agent in Charge James Turgal, Jr. stated. "While there can be no real justice for Leesa Jo Shaner's family, at least they were able to witness her killer being called to answer for his crimes,"
The evidence at trial showed that Ms. Shaner left her family home around 9:25 p.m. on May 29, 1973, to pick up her husband from the Tucson International Airport. When her husband arrived he could not find her. The car she drove to the airport was later found in the airport parking lot with the driver’s window halfway down, the car unlocked and her purse inside on the back seat. Despite an extensive search, Ms. Shaner could not be located. 
In September 1973, Ms. Shaner’s remains were found in a shallow grave on Ft. Huachuca, Ariz. Witnesses testified and evidence was presented at trial that Zamastil abducted her from the airport and took her to Ft. Huachuca where he raped, murdered and buried her. Law enforcement officials first became aware of Zamistil’s involvement in Ms. Shaner’s rape and murder in 1979 while he was imprisoned for the rape and murder of a Wisconsin woman.

GUILTY PLEA IN 1976 DARLENE STACK SEX SLAY

THE SUSPECTED killer in the notorious 1976 murder of Darlene Stack is set to plead guilty, his lawyer revealed. Michael Whitney will receive a life sentence for the killing. Whitney was charged in early August after cops revealed DNA at the scene linked Whitney to the crime. Whitney and Stack lived in the same boarding house in suburban Chicago. Stack, 28, was found raped and murdered (she had been stabbed to death) and although Whitney was eyed at the time, the case went nowhere and gathered dust. AUSTIN POWERS STAR ACCUSED OF 1990 KIDNAP/RAPE

AUSTIN Powers star Joe Son is set to stand trial for the vicious 1990 kidnap and rape of a woman.
The pint sized actor who made his name playing shoe throwing bad guy, Random Task has turned into a real bad guy after his DNA was matched to the vicious crime.
On Christmas Eve of 1990 the 20-year-old woman was abducted off the LA street by two men, who reportedly then subjected her to a vicious beating.
Then holding her at gunpoint, they repeatedly raped her, telling her her she was going to die as they counted the bullets in front of her, according to Orange County prosecutors.
Astonishingly they let her go and Son managed to evade justice, building a career, first as an MMA fighter and then hitting stardom in Austin Powers, International Man of Mystery.But after he was arrested in 2008 and imprisoned in 2008 for violating his parole on an unrelated felony vandalism conviction, his DNA was entered into the Codicis National Database and he was linked to the attack more then two decades ago.   
Son initially was charged with multiple sexual assault and kidnapping counts, but many of those charges were dropped in part because the statute of limitations had expired KTLA reports.
He now faces trial on two charges: conspiracy to commit murder and torture, which carry life terms in prison upon conviction, according to Deputy District Attorney Eric Scarbrough.
Santiago Gaitan, 40, Son's co-defendant, was arrested in 2009 after he, too, was linked to the assault.
He pleaded guilty to multiple sex crimes in January 2011, and was sentenced to prison for 17 years and four months.
