NO CLOSE IN HEIDI CHILDS, DAVID METZLER MURDERS

IT'S NOW been two years since Virginia Tech students Heidi Childs and David Metzler were mysteriously murdered. Heidi, 18, and David, 19, of Lynchburg were shot to death on the evening of Aug. 26, 2009 in the parking lot of a campground in the Jefferson National Forest. There have been no arrests. Their bodies were discovered the next day by a man walking his dog. But cops in Virginia are refusing to characterize the case as "cold."
Detectives have followed up on more than 1,300 tips and are confident someone "hold the key" to blow the case wide open. The shocking murders were considered random by police, who admit
they have not found a single motive for them. The pair had dated since high school and were going to the campground for just a brief visit because Heidi had homework. A reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case has reached more than $72,000.
A law enforcement said: "This has been an exhausting two years. Everyone involved has worked hard on the case. The one thing we have not been able to do is give closure to the Metzler and Childs families."
