FORTY-EIGHT years is a long time to wait for justice. Dr. John Averitt, is a police psychiatrist buit in 1963, he was a 16-year-old high school student when maniacal homicide suddenly entered his world.
His friend Bobby Bobby Domingos, 18, and his fiancee, Linda Edwards, 17, were brutally murdered in Santa Barbara County. The couple were skipping school and sunbathing at a remote beach just days before graduation when they were approached by an unknown killer. Domingos was shot 11 times and Edwards nine times with a .22 caliber semi-automatic rifle.

Now, nearly 50 years later, police have still been unable to solve the crime. It may be classified as a cold case but Averitt has never forgotten it.Some have suggested that the couple were the first victims of the infamous Zodiac Killer who haunted in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
He said: "I'm very active in (the case)," Averitt said. "I've been trying to get all of the media attention I can about this cold case."
Now in his 60s and a resident of Cookeville since the 1970s, Averitt has devoted his life to bringing their killer(s) to justice. Through years of research, Averitt also believes that his friends may have been the first victims Zodiac. The murders of Domingos and Edwards share similarities to confirmed Zodiac killings. Zodiac's M.O. was to approach young couples in remote areas. The killer's motive was never robbery or sexual attack. The ammo found at the site of Domingos and Edwards murder matched the ammunition found at confirmed Zodiac murder sites.
