NEARLY 20 years after Lynette Nancy Gibson was murdered in Saginaw, Michigan, her killer has been convicted. Rodney Alton Slayton, 45, was found guilty in the grisly 1992 homicide. Gibson's body was found in the parking lot of a bar. A 35-year-old mother of five, her body was barely clothed on that frigid February night. She had been raped and strangled and years later cops linked his semen to Gibson. Slayton later told his ex-wife and her uncle that he strangled Gibson with a seat belt while she was sitting in the passenger seat of his mother’s car. The case quickly went cold until April 2009 when the case was reopened and with
the use of DNA linked the case to creepy Slayton.
Gibson's sister Dorothy Davis said Lynette now has 14 grandchildren she will never see but the result of the investigation was sweet.
She said: “It’s been real frustrating, wondering will they ever find somebody. It hurt [seeing crime scene photos] a lot but I wanted to see it so I can move on and get it out of my head. She was a mother, a daughter, a sister, a grandmother. She has 14 grandchildren she will never see.”
