CASE CLOSED: SLAYING OF BOY, 15, IN 1969 SOLVED

FOR MORE than 41 years, a Tewksbury, Massachusetts family has endured a daily nightmare. Now, that nightmare appears to be over with the collapse of a Secrecy pact. On Sept. 17, 1969 John McCabe went to a high school dance and never came home. Just 15-years-old, he was found dead in a field. He had been gagged and
hogtied and had a noose around his neck. Now, three men have been
arrested in connection with the young man's slaying. John’s now 80-year-old mother and father were there to see someone finally charged with the boy's murder.
“I think I was hoping that it might be over because my wife and I have lived with this for so long,” said Bill McCabe, murder victim’s father. “She’s been a great source of strength.”
Cops say Edward Brown, 59, had a moment of conscience and told detectives they initially grabbed John to scare him for flirting with the girlfriend of Walter Shelley, now 60, and charged with murder. Also charged with murder was Michael Ferreira, 57.
“There aren’t better moments in this business then when you can sit with a family, like we did with the McCabe’s, and tell them that they are going to be able to confront the three people who killed their boy,” said Middlesex County District Attorney Gerry Leone.
